Pig Breeding Scheme
Select of Finnish Landrace and Finnish Yorkshire is based on test results from the central station testing and on-farm testing. The central station testing and on-farm testing have been developed primarily for genetically improving of production, carcass quality and meat quality traits. The litter recording is focused on collecting information on fertility.
We develop breeding evaluation of Finnish pigs constantly and we have a long history of successful collaboration with scientific institutions.
Litter recording
- breeding and production farms
- covers 30 000 sows
- litter performance
- health recording
- H index is a fertility index for purebred sows and boars calculated by BLUP multiple trait animal model method
On-farm testing
- identification
- daily gain
- fat measurements
- conformation
Central station testing
- feed conversation
- daily gain
- carcass quality
- meat quality
- conformation
- K-index calculated by BLUP multiple trait animal model method. K-index consists of production traits index, carcass quality traits index and meat quality index.
Besides K- and H-indices we are calculating movement and teat indices. Indices are calculated by a BLUP multiple trait animal model method.
