Faba Pig - High Quality Swine Genetics

Faba Pig is a national pig breeding organization, where pig breeders and producers are members. We are responsible for:

• litter recording
• on-farm test
• central station test
• pedigree test (DNA)
• official herd book keeping
• breeding value estimation
• export of breeding pigs and boar semen

The target of our breeding work is to improve economical efficiency of pork production. The traits improved are:

Production traits

• daily gain
• feed conversation

Carcass quality traits

• meat %  
• fat % in back and loin

Meat quality traits

• pH value and meat colour from cross-section of eye muscle and  
• top side of ham

Fertility

• litter size at birth
• number of stillborn
• number of piglets dead before weaning
• farrowing age
• farrowing interval

Finnish Landrace and Finnish Yorkshire are the main pig breeds in Finland. The active purebred breeding population is 2000 sows in both breeds.
