Faba - Past & Future
Finland’s first cattle breeding organisation was founded in 1898 in Eastern Finland. Several new associations were founded within a few years. After almost half a century of several associations operating in their own regions, it was time to join together and form the national Finnish Cattle Breeding Association in 1946. Soon this organisation was joined by Finnish Ayrshire Association, Finnish Pig Breeding Association and Finnish Beef Cattle Association, which was the starting point of Finnish Animal Breeding Association.
Finnish Animal Breeding Association co-operative became a member of the Association for Artificial Insemination Centres co-operative, and together they founded a new central organisation, Animal Breeding Centre-FABA co-operative. The new organisation was a founding member of ProAgria Group together with Finnish Animal Breeding Association and Association of Rural Advisory Centres. The new centre was created to improve communication between the organisations and development of advisory services.
Finnish Animal Breeding Association changed its name to Faba Breeding in 2005. Different AI centres had been joining together during the decades and had formed FABA Service, an AI co-operative that covered almost the whole country. In 2009 Faba Breeding agreed to join FABA Service. Operations involving semen production would be transferred to Viking Genetics and pig breeding was transferred to FABA Pig Ltd. By 2009 FABA Service had been joined by all the Finnish AI cooperatives and with Faba Breeding in the same company, the new nation-wide breeding and AI services company was given a familiar new name: Faba Service.
With change come new possibilities. The new Faba has better resources to react to requests of clients and owners. Collaboration and synergy with all areas of dairy cattle breeding brings strength and a larger customer circle. Through the growth of R&D resources, Faba is able to develop new services and data programs with competitive prices. Efficient flow of information inside the organization helps Faba to serve customers even better.
