What is Faba?

Faba is the trademark for animal breeding and artificial insemination in Finland. Faba provides services ranging from artificial insemination and embryo transfer to genetic evaluations and breeding advising.

Environmental awareness is paramount in Finnish animal breeding. The aim is to utilize natural resources in an economically and socially acceptable way. Breeding characteristics are selected not only for their affect on profitability and quality of production but to improve the health, fertility and stability of animal itself.

Faba handles the export and import of bull and boar semen, cattle embryos, breeding cattle and pigs. Faba also maintains the official herdbooks for dairy cattle, beef cattle and swine. Mating plans are done by breeding advisors on herd level. Faba is also responsible for estimating genetic evaluations.

Close co-operation with other Nordic countries Sweden and Denmark is a strong asset, especially in genetic evaluations as well as artificial insemination.
